Last Wednesday, we had our class in the lab. When I sat down in front of my computer, I was very relax, because I was sure that the worst of my blogging experience was over: I had all the tools to work on blogs! I was completely wrong…Poor fool! Sarah began the lesson with a great smile and told us: “In the last two weeks, you learned something about the Blogosphere and how to create your personal blog…Well, today we’re going to use a new technology! Great, isn’t it?”. I thought: “No! It isn’t great at all! I just found my feet with the blogs, I was so sure that I had all I need to work without any effort… and now I have to churn up all again!”.
I know, I’m always a little too catastrophic in my reactions, but, you know, these new technologies scare me a lot! However, I must admit that I was too exaggerated because feed aggregators turned out to be better that expected. Sarah was right: feed aggregators are a very useful technology and they’ll simplify my work on blogs. You’ve all under your control and you can easily find the new posts in the blogs you’re interested in. At first, I just created a playlist with my group’s blogs, but then I thought that it could be a great opportunity to open my mind to new horizons, so…I grabbed this chance! I subscribed to other blogs, like for example The Guardian , BBC News and CNN. I still didn't have time to read all the feeds, but I'm sure that Marta's right: I definitely want to use this aggregator to compare the news by different online newspaper, just to have a critical approach to the news from the world.
Well, another obstacle has been removed, but… How many unknown “worlds” will I discover from now on? Time will tell! ;-)
See you soon!

Hi Martina! I do like the very last sentence of your post: "How many unknown worlds will I discover from now on?" This is the same question I ask myself everytime we have English lesson in the lab..but I'm now starting not to be as catastrophic as I was at the beginning of the course (when Sarah first mentioned the name "blogs" I was on the point to bang my head on the wall, as desperate as I was!). Instead, my enthusiasm about techonlogical tools is slowly growing, because all the new things we are now learning are really going to simplify our life! As you said, feed aggregators, as well as blogs, can open our mind to new horizons, not only because we are learing how to use technologies, but also because we are getting to know other worlds, other realities, other ways to communicate..and in this way we can really feel we are part of a global community..If I were to tell all this to my grandparents, I think they won't believe me..
Cheers, Marta
Hi Martina!
We were together when Sarah first pronounced those unknown and mysterious words, "Feed aggregator", and we both said "Feed what??" Our struggle against technology started almost five years ago, when we learnt to use First Class in order to send our homework to on line conferences, do you remember? Well, now, after such a long training, we are ready to test ourselves against the handling of the Web and all the surprises it can offer! Of course we still have to grow in confidence and ability, so we can't help thinking "Oh my goddess, am I going to make it this time?". However, as I told Marta, technologies are made to be used by people just like you and me (and even clumsier!) and there is no need to be worried about them! I think the best thing to do is to relax and get ready to learn something that, as Sara suggested, could turn out to be very useful even for different purposes.
Cheers,
Elena
PS: I apologize for being too long-winded in my posts, I'm working on it!
Hi Martina! I think that our astonishment will slowly decrease with the developing of the course (or at least I hope so!). After some scepticism i realised that feed aggregators are very useful to shorten the time I spend on the web. I don't have to check every single site I'm interested in, because there is this fantastic tool that does the job for me. You only have to subscribe to your favourite sites and create your playlists and that's all. In an epoch in which you can't live without a computer every new technological device is useful to increase our knowledge and abilities.
